Su says a big £1,505 ‘thank you’ to Hurstwood Park Hospital
Brain tumour survivor Su Coleman has said ‘thank you’ in style by presenting a cheque worth £1,505.50 to the staff at Hurstwood Park Hospital where she was treated.
Ten weeks ago, Su was preparing for her brain tumour removal. Family, friends and colleagues at Freedom Leisure’s Triangle Leisure Centre rallied round her with many having their heads shaved in support and to raise money for the hospital.
“My colleagues at Freedom Leisure were amazing that day – I had to have my head shaved for my operation but they did it out of sheer good will to support me and to start the fundraising,” remembers Su. “February was a difficult month with my operation and then the recuperation. Without the dedication of the staff at Hurstwood Park Hospital and the incredible support of my family, friends and colleagues, my operation and recovery would have been far harder to face,” she says.
Su is now back at work and has resumed teaching Aqua Fit classes at The Triangle Leisure Centre – operated by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Mid Sussex District Council.
“I would like to thank everybody who has helped me raise these much-needed funds and know that many people have done a wide variety of activities to bring in this money on my behalf,” says Su. “Hurstwood Park saved my life and the least I can do is give back something to help support their invaluable work.”
“Su faced her operation in February with dignity and humour and we were only too pleased to support her fundraising efforts,” says Stuart Smith, Freedom Leisure General Manager at The Triangle. “My colleagues and I had our heads shaved alongside Su to show our support and members and staff at The Triangle and The Dolphin really pulled out the stops to raise this money alongside her family and friends,” he says. “The sum is testament to Su who is a highly respected and well-liked member and colleague. We are so pleased to have her back,” says Smith.
